Spinlord Hydra X 1,0mm is a versatile, medium-speed long-pips rubber; while not the easiest to handle, it offers maximum disruptive effect and great versatility, making it ideal for players experienced with long-pips.
After extensive testing, we concluded that the pip geometry of the "Dornenglanz" model was best suited for generating a high level of disruption, so we decided to use it for the "Hydra X" as well.
Secondly, medium speed is optimal for a varied playing style. If a rubber is too slow, the disruptive effect diminishes, or the range of shots is restricted (or both). Very fast rubbers do not generate more disruption than medium-speed ones, yet they offer more limited playing characteristics. Therefore, we ensured the "Hydra X" speed fell within a similar range to the "Dornenglanz" or "Sternenfall Pro" models.
However, we wanted this rubber to be more durable than the "Dornenglanz." To achieve this, we increased the natural rubber content and gave the pip heads a ribbed surface. While this slightly reduces the disruptive effect during passive blocking, it remains significant. At the same time, the Hydra X outperforms the Dornenglanz in other types of shots, particularly in backspin defense.
Ultimately, its durability is excellent: the Hydra X is even more resilient than the Sternenfall Pro, making it our most durable fast long-pips rubber. Generally, only slower, very soft rubbers achieve a similar level of durability.
To enhance the disruptive effect and maximize versatility, a polymer was added to the rubber compound to increase elasticity. As a result, the Hydra X is somewhat more elastic than our previous long-pips rubbers. The pips flex more quickly, making the overall playing characteristics somewhat less linear than those of the Sternenfall Pro. Nevertheless, it remains highly predictable—though not for the opponent.
Overall, the rubber compound is slightly softer than that of the Sternenfall Pro but is still considered medium-hard—meaning it is somewhat harder than the Blitzschlag.
